The Film
TASTING THE FRUIT
In the Alpujarras of southern Spain stands a mulberry tree
A silkworm dragon, coiled amongst its branches, provides a golden thread.
The film extends my autobiographical road movie style.Meeting people along the way. Their stories-memories of mulberry trees, mixing fact with fiction.
The golden thread connects different points in time and spaces into a map. The film is the documentation of the mapmaking

The reels offer a look behind the scenes.
The film itself is a slower, slightly less absurd and more considered, researched and crafted work.
The Map
A central subject of the film is a co creation of a map
The map is made with the people whose lives, memories and experiences are part of what is being mapped. This will be made into a limited edition for the people who made the map and patrons.
Over the course of the project, a series of workshops and creative rituals will feed into its making.
Using the golden thread of the silkworm dragon and Bergson’s ideas about perception, memories will be connected to points of matter in space and time.
These points become portals — where memory, matter and different experiences of time can meet.
The golden thread brings myth and the unseen into the socio-political realities of the present.
Workshops
Workshops will take place with growers, healers, artists, cooks and others whose lives have, in some way, a connection to the stories of the mulberry tree.
